A few months ago, I said I share my tips on colorblocking, and incorporating multiple colors in your outfit. Today's OOTD does just that. When colorblocking, certain colors pair best together! Yellow and blue, pink and red, yellow and green and in this case orange and purple. Several other colors pair well together and over time I'll highlight those color combinations on The Mod Little Melanin. The core piece of today's outfit was my sleeveless, longline kimono. Kimonos are a perfect edition to any outfit, and can take an outfit from drab to fab. It's the way I "cheat" an outfit...as in dress it up when im feeling lazy. I own at least ten kimonos in a variety of colors and patterns and purchased this one from either Marahalls or TJ Maxx for less than $10.00. I decided that colorblocking the look underneath my kimono would be the best way to incorporate the colors from the kimono and pull the look together. My top is from Wet Seal and is a high neck "chiffon-like" top that was only $1.80 on clearance. On bottom I am wearing a rust orange button down skirt that was also purchased from Wet Seal for $5.00. The best thing about this skirt is that it is perfect for fall and winter. I imagine that I will be pairing it with boots, tights and a comfy sweater in the colder months! Both items were purchased during Wet Seal's Last Chance Sale. I limited my accessories for this look because the outfit was busy. I opted for a gold and purple chocker purchased from Burlington Coat Factory and gold button earrings. My shoes are my gladiator sandals from Shop Hope's (shophopes.com). These sandals have become a summer staple in my wardrobe and I highly recommend adding a pair of gladiators to your summer wardrobe because they are perfect for every look from day to night. If you aren't ready for lace-up, knee high gladiators, try a pair of ankle or calf gladiator sandals instead.
