It’s Day ???? of quarantine and if you’re like me you’ve probably been living in leggings and pajamas. Let’s be honest, if you’re not leaving the house, you probably have no reason to get dressed, and you definitely have no reason to wear jeans. But if on some rare occasion you do actually feel like dressing up for a day spent in your living room, The Mod Little Melanin has you covered! Oversized tees are perfect for quarantine and chill! My favorite oversized tees are band tees, but lately I’ve been wearing whatever 2XL tee I can find in my house that can be styled with leggings and/or biker shorts. I found this oversized band tee at Shop Hope’s, one of my favorite online boutiques that offers quality clothing at affordable prices. I originally purchased this tee shirt in a 2XL to be worn as an oversized dress with a pair of Doc Martin boots to wear as a comfy outfit for a day of shopping, etc. Instead I decided to wear it as a shirt for this look by tucking it in utilizing the “French Tuck” method, a phrase coined by the cast of Netflix’s Queer Eye.
To complete the look, I added a pair of high-waisted jeans purchased from Old Navy. The Rockstar Jeans sold by Old Navy are my go-to jeans aside from the No Boundaries jeans I talk about often on the blog. They offer tons of stretch, and offer sculpting at the tummy to assist in creating a desired look in your jeans. No pair of jeans are complete without the proper belt; this belt is a find from Forever 21 and is a Gucci style dupe belt. And of course no quarantine look is complete without a pair of comfy sneakers. This pair of funky sneakers is a find from Red Shoes, a local shoe store in the Kansas City metropolitan area. I’ve shared time and time again on The Mod Little Melanin, my love of jumpsuits! They are the easiest piece to style, and are perfect for when you’re completely unsure of what to wear. Well I’m back today to show you how to style a jumpsuit as a transition piece from Winter into Spring. When I first purchased this jumpsuit back in February, I initially thought it was a chambray (denim) jumpsuit. To my surprise when it arrived from Shophopes.com, it was actually a gorgeous navy corduroy jumpsuit. If you’ve been an avid reader of The Mod Little Melanin long enough, you know I LOVE clothing with texture! For this reason, I made it my goal to style this jumpsuit with a multitude of different textures. I decided to pair it with a pair of white, ankle length rain boots from Jeffrey Campbell. Now I know what you’re thinking, “Chelsea Nicole, it’s sunny and gorgeous in your photo. There isn’t a drop of rain in the sky. Why are you wearing rain boots?” Believe it or not, rain boots can absolutely be an everyday staple in your wardrobe. In fact, I bought these boot specifically for every day wear during the rainy months of Spring. White is a fun neutral that is great for Spring, and literally goes with every day. You can even style these boots with athleisure wear. If you don’t believe me, just stay tuned to see! With a square toe and heel, these boots are a timeless addition to your closet that I guarantee you will be able to wear year after year. Jeffrey Campbell boots normally have a high price tag, but I was lucky enough to score these boots for less than $60.00 I finished off the look by adding a pair of chunky hoop earrings! If you’ve been in love with the earrings I’ve worn in my blogs lately, than you’re in luck! Next month I’ll be launching my store on Themodlittlemelanin.com! You’ll be able to purchase some of my favorite accessories at an affordable price!
Stay tuned! ️ - Chelsea Nicole, The Mod Little Melanin I’ve decided to branch out the topics I share with my readers on The Mod Little Melanin. I’ve always had a love for all things beauty related, especially makeup. I have drawers full of eyeshadow palettes, and own nearly one hundred different lipsticks. While I’d still consider myself an amateur at makeup, I often spend hours watching YouTube tutorials from my favorite beauty gurus, like Jackie Aina. So while I’m still a baby beauty guru in the making; I’ll be sharing some of my favorite makeup and beauty products, a long with a few looks with those products. Today’s beauty review features Colourpop’s latest drop, the Sailor Moon Collection. The entire collection included a palette, two lip duos, two pressed powder blushes, and two glitters. As mentioned above, lipsticks and glosses are my favorite, so I absolutely had to share my thoughts about the Sailor Moon lip duos. The duos are sold as a set for $15.00, or individually for $7.00. I chose to purchase both sets, for a total of four lip glosses. The Moonlight Bundle features an Ultra Blotted Lip in the shade “Bun Head” and an Ultra Glossy Lip in the shade “Sailor Moon.” The Daylight Bundle features an Ultra Blotted Lip in the shade “Usagi” and an Ultra Glossy Lip in the shade “Moon Tiara.” - All four colors are gorgeous, but include two distinct lip gloss formulas. The Ultra Blotted Lip is to be lightly applied on the lips, and then blotted with your lips to evenly distribute the color across your lips. This formula is definitely a matte lipstick, that is buildable and lasted nearly all day with little, to no transfer. I’ve never purchased any other lipsticks from Colourpop’s Ultra Blotted Lip line, but it did seem to have a tingling sensation that is typical with a lip plumping formula. My lips are already full, so I’m unsure if it is actually a plumping lipstick, or if the ingredients just result in a tingling sensation.
The Ultra Glossy Lip is your standard lip gloss, but does not have the normal stickiness you might expect with a gloss formula. Instead of being left with sticky lips, my lips were left well moisturized, that lasted several hours. Glossy lips, with a brown lip liner are my go-to everyday lip look so these two lip glosses will definitely be heavily used. Overall the shades are neutral, everyday shades that can be incorporated into your makeup routine for a variety of different occasions. The two Ultra Blotted Lips are two shades of pink, with Bun Head being slightly darker than Usagi. With my skin tone, I am more likely to wear Bun Head more, as I tend to avoid bright, and lighter pink lipsticks. Out of both glosses, my favorite is Sailor Moon, as it is more complimenting to my skin tone. So obviously, I prefer the Moonlight Lip Bundle over the Daylight Lip Bundle. However, one can easily adjust the color of either gloss by first applying a lip liner of your choice to your lips before applying your gloss. To ensure your either lip gloss formula gives you luscious lips all day long, I recommend applying a lip scrub of your choice, followed by a lip primer before applying your lipstick! The entire collection is currently sold out on Colourpop's website, but will be relaunching soon! Be sure to follow their Instagram account if you're hoping to get your hands on this collection. - Chelsea Nicole, The Mod Little Melanin Coats and jackets are my favorite piece to add to a look to pull it together. In fact, in my apartment right now I have an entire rolling rack of outerwear that I rotate in and out of my wardrobe depending on my look of the day. One day you may spy me in a trench coat, and the next I may be wearing a full length faux fur coat. My Fall/Winter wardrobe is full of many neutral pieces, and having the proper outerwear allows me to add a touch of my personality to each look I wear. This look was quite simple to style. I started with a cream, fringe sweater that I purchased from Shop Hope’s. Next, I added a pair of ripped jeans from Boohoo. Boohoo.com is one of my favorite places to find jeans at an affordable price. I scored this pair of light wash ripped jeans for only $10.00. Bold colored boots have been a favorite of mine lately, as well. I promise, I have nearly every odd colored boot in my closest, including at least five pairs or white boots. I found this pair of white boots at Nastygal.com for less than $15.00. Nasty Gal is one of my FAVORITE places to find stand-out pieces at surprisingly affordable prices. There is always a great sale on their website, and many pieces marked down to 80 to 90 percent off. The key piece to pulling this look together is treating your coat like an accessory rather than a piece of outerwear. If you look at your coat as a means to keep warm, then you likely only have one or two coats in a neutral color...likely black. However, if you treat your coat like an accessory you’re able to incorporate your outerwear to better accommodate your look. For example, you’re no longer wearing a bulky ski parka, but now you’re perhaps wearing a teddy bear coat instead. So what types of coats make great accessories, while also providing you with warmth on the chilly winter days? A neutral teddy coat, or a ankle length pea coat in tan is a great place to start! I found my ankle length pea coat as a part of Wild Fable’s collection at Target for only $15! The traditional plaid pattern allows it to become a classic piece that can be worn for years to come. You can also incorporate this look into a sporty wardrobe by pairing it with a grey jogger, a white turtleneck and a pair of white chunky sneakers. - Chelsea Nicole, The Mod Little Melanin |
