Continuing my mini thrifting series with another thrift store find! This vintage Prada bag was purchased from Savers, a chain thrift store in the United States and Canada. I was hesitant to share this purse on the blog at first. It's made of a nylon fabric, and is a vintage style. However, after seeing Jordyn Woods post a picture with a handbag nearly identical to my thrifted find, I knew I had to share! Like Fendi, Prada has gone back to their popular purse style of the 1990s and revamped the bag with a few modern tweaks to appeal to the younger generation. These tweaks include the addition of studded hardward to the purse straps, and the front closures and colored leather strips in colors such as fire engine red and royal blue. Unfortunately, I was unable to locate this purse on Prada.com. It's possible that the purse hasn't been released yet, and that Jordyn received the handbag early, however, when the bag is released to the website I imagine it will be priced between $1,400 and $1,600.

I imagine when most of my readers read The Mod Little Melanin and see my fashion posts, they don't view me as an outdoorsy person. However, I'd rather spend more time at the beach, or lake or hiking in the woods than sitting indoors. I even have a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, with a focus in Ecology because I loved the outdoors so much. So what does The Mod Little Melanin wear when she goes fishing? Continue reading below to find out! Contrary to my everyday style, this was a rather simple look for me. I decided to wear a sherpa pullover to keep me warm, lake-side. I eyed a sherpa pullover in PINK for months before realizing I wouldn't be able to afford it. (It was nearly $80.) Thankfully, I was able to find a more affordable version at my local Walmart, for only $3.00. It's a novelty sherpa pullover, however, and has a Darth Vader logo (I'm a Star Wars nerd). I layered it over a denim, button-down shirt I purchased on clearance from Forever 21.
To finish off the look, I added a pair of midrise, cutoff jeans from Old Navy and a pair of leopard print "Doc Martin" style boots from JC Penney. - Chelsea Nicole, The Mod Little Melanin If you've read my blogs within the past month, you already know how big I am on thrifting! I've found so many hidden gems in thrift stores and consigment shops within the past month that were originally worth way more than I purchased them for. If you keep up with the big fashion designers, many popular brands such as Fendi and Gucci are going back to their roots, and modernizing their vintage pieces for their Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Specifically, Fendi has returned to their signature monogram look that grew to popularity in the 1970s and again in 1997. I discovered my vintage Fendi for only $3.99 at Savers Thrift Store! It features the classic saddel stitching, and the large double-F logo that gained a cult following back in the day. The key to purchasing a vintage designer handbag is Google! Google to double check the authenticity; my bag features a serial number that's stamped in the interior of the bag, a feature that was placed in all bags after 1980. It also has an interior leather label that states "Fendi Made in Italy." If your bag doesn't have this it was either made prior to 1980, or it's unfortunately a fraud.
Since this bag is vintage it does have some minor wear and tear on the leather. However, that's easily repairable at a shoe store (they commonly fix leather tears and broken zippers on purses). Today, the signature bags that mimic the 1970s designs will cost you at least $2,390.00, and that's just for the Runway Shopper purse. Other styles will run you nearly $3,590.00. So I'll consider this find a steal that's right on trend! Happy Thirfting! - Chelsea Nicole, The Mod Little Melanin |
