It’s the second most wonderful time of year in the world of The Mod Little Melanin, Winter/Spring transition season! Now you might be wondering what exactly transition season is. If you are, here is the simplest way to describe it; transition season is the period between Winter and Spring where it feels too warm for a winter coat, yet too chilly for just a dress. During this time period when the weather is changing, I love to style my outfits in layers to best adapt to the varying temperatures throughout the day. Key transition pieces for wardrobe are likely simple pieces that you already own in your closet. My favorite transition piece is a denim jacket. Simply, layer the jacket over a graphic tee and high waisted jeans or a flowy dress. Adding a piece of outerwear to your outfit adds both practicality and style to your outfit. ![]() If you’re unsure of how to best transition your outfits into Spring, my Pinterest account, @themodlittlemelanin, along with my blog offers tons of ideas to help keep you stylish and flawless all season long. Today’s Winter/Spring transition look features a bold piece of outerwear purchased from Nasty Gal. Unfortunately, this piece is no longer available on their website. Originally marketed as a coat dress, I chose to style this piece as a light jacket and alternate the top that I’m wearing underneath. On this particular day, I was attending a dinner and needed a look that was subtle, yet trendy. Pairing this jacket with a black turtleneck and a high waisted jean helped to create a sleek look that can be worn again and again during both the Winter and early Spring months. In fact, this combination of a turtleneck with a high waisted pant is a staple in my wardrobe, and can become a staple in your wardrobe too. This turtleneck is actually a body suit from Boohoo.com, which allows it to comfortably fit in your bottom of choice without bunching at the waist. Believe it or not, my jeans are actually from Walmart, crazy right! They’re my go-to jeans and beyond comfortable. Most importantly, they’re incredibly affordable, and available for less than $10.00 at your local Walmart. I own this pair of jeans in a variety of washes, including a light wash, a blue wash, this dark wash, and a black wash. Trust me, you need these jeans by No Boundaries in your closet! To pull my look together, I added a pair of thigh high boots from Shop Hopes. Now, you’re probably thinking that these boots don’t look comfortable at all, but you’d be completely wrong! They have much stretch throughout the leg of the boot, and a chunky square heel that will allow you to stay on your feet all night long. The only con to this pair of boots is that they tend to slide down as you walk. If you have bigger legs than myself, this won’t be an issue, but it’s an annoyance when you’re trying to be cute and your boots have fallen below your knee. Unfortunately, these boots are no longer available on the website, but on Thursday, I’ll be linking other options you can find on the web to mimic my look! Happy Styling!
