Think denim on demin died when with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake in the early 2000s? Think again! Continue reading below to learn how to revamp your denim on denim look this season! Start your look with a denim top and bottom. The key to successfully pulling off this look is choosing denim pieces that are slightly different shades. I choose a pair of highwaisted, lightwash jeans from Oldnavy that I purchased for around $3.00! (Oldnavy is currently having a sale with prices marked up to 75% off on clearance items). I paired the jeans with a denim, studded top from H&M that I purchased a few seasons back. The studs helped to provide the look with a vintage feel. To do the same to a denim shirt you already own, visit your local craft store and purchase iron on patches or studs that can be glued on to your denim top. To modernize the look, and give it a bohemian vibe, I added a black, fringe vest from Forever 21. If my hair would have fit, I would have added my oversized fedora hat, also purchased from Forever 21. In the past when I wore this look, I wore a pair of clog, moccasins from Target to further the boho look. However, any heeled shoe will suffice to pull the look, as the pants are super long, perfect for any girl over 5'7".
Key style tips for this look? Make sure your denim pieces vary in color. To pull off a boho look, add accessories such as a fedora hat or a floppy hat. - Chelsea Nicole, The Mod Little Melanin 💋

In search of a cute way to style that ugly Christmas sweater for a holiday party or get together? Continue reading below for style tips! I found my ugly Christmas sweater at a local Walmart in Virginia. When attending an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party avoid styling your sweater with jeans and heels. Everyone will have this look on and you won't stand out, which is important in everyday life if you're me. Instead, opt to style your sweater with a skirt or a pair of dressy pants. I styled my sweater with a pleather skater skirt from Marshalls and added a pair of lace biker shorts underneath for length. Alternatively, I had planned to style my sweater with a pair of gold, metallic pants from American Apperal that have been previously seen on The Mod Little Melanin. I completed the look by adding a pair of over the knee boots from Rue 21 that I found on sale om Black Friday for $15.00. My choker is actually gold garland taken off of my Christmas tree and tied in a bow. My take away style tips for this look? Don't be basic. Style your look to draw attention to your sweater. If you're attending an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party your outfit should be ugly yet cute, not boring and comfortable. Just because it is Christmas doesn't mean that a "firetruck" red lipstick will look best with your outfit. If you are black, I suggest using a black owned lipstick line to find the best shade of red that compliments your skin tone. My lipstick is from Black Radiance's Creme Lipstick Collection. You can find Black Radiance at your local drugstore or at Target.
- Chelsea Nicole, The Mod Little Melanin 💋 Another simple winter outfit featuring a poncho! Continue reading below for outfit details and styling tips. This time I layered my outfit with a thick turtleneck from Rue 21 that I received as a Christmas gift last year. This turtleneck is the perfect layering piece. I tend to style it with either a faux fur, a poncho or another form of outerwear. My favorite way I have styled this top in the past, is layered with a denim jumper (a look you'll see on The Mod Little Melanin soon). I paired the turtleneck with a pair of highwaisted jeans from Garage. Garage, though particularly pricey, has great quality jeans! I've owned this pair for about three years and the stretch and quality of the jean is amazing. My poncho is an affordable suede fringe poncho from GoJane.com. As I said in a previous blog, I tend to shop online because the deals are better and the finds are outstanding! I paid no more than $5.00 for this poncho, as it was on sale for 90% off.
Styling tips for ponchos: High waisted jeans pair best with ponchos. If you are styling a printed poncho, choose a prominent color from the poncho. If you feel like taking a fashion risk, pair a printed top with a printed poncho and choose a pant that does not overpower the outfit. - Chelsea Nicole, The Mod Little Melanin 💋 |
