As promised, here is my second and final installment of my Spring Shoe Trends. All of the shoes below can be found at Forever21.com or at your local Forever 21 store, except the final pair which are available at wetseal.com or at your local Wet Seal store. FlatformsFlatform shoes are a great alternative to platform shoes. Rather than having a heel that has a higher than the front of the shoe, a flatform is a platform shoe that is all one level. These shoes are SUPER COMFORTABLE and a perfect for everyday wear in the Spring/Summer. As always, you can dress this shoe up or down. Wear it with a maxi, shorts, or jeans. The perfect jean for the Espadrille Flatform is the latest cutoff cropped flare, creating the perfect boho look. Lace-Up FlatsI despise round toe flats, if you have them in your closet throw them out and replace them with the Spring's latest trend, Lace-Up Flats. Forever 21 offers this shoe in a variety of colors to go with every outfit. Though these shoes are available in multiple colors on the website, my favorite color is the blush pair, which is trending this Spring. The lace-up strings on this shoe allow for the shoe to be adjusted for comfort and a personalized fit. They're pointed toe, which gives an updated look to the traditional flat aka the ballet slipper. Perforated Spring BootiesIf you're like me and love to wear boots year-round, this perforated bootie is your best option for this Spring/Summer! The perforated boot allows your foot to breathe in warm weather and keeps you cool. I would buy the brown pair (available on the website), as it goes better with a majority of Spring/Summer fashion. Brown is also a more versatile color than black, if you're searching for a shoe that would work with a majority of the clothes in your closet. Fringe BootiesFringe is a great trend for Spring! I'm still searching for a pair of affordable (> $40.00) fringe sandals, but this pair of fringe booties from Forever 21 is a great way to wear the trend. This tan color is perfect for mixing and matching with your favorite outfits this Spring. I would pair this pair of booties with a cute romper. I have a white lace romper that will go perfect with the fringe booties from Forever 21. Lace Up BootiesLace Up Booties are perfect for Spring! The lace allows for openness at the front and top of the boot that will keep your feet cool in the Spring/Summer. These shoes feature a peep toe, and a chunky heel. Chunky heeled shoes are my favorite, and provide added support and comfort when you are on your feet for an extended period of time. This boot is perfect for pairing with a a maxi, romper or a club wear outfit. Unlike the other shoes, this shoe is available at Wet Seal, and is listed as the Faux Suede Lace Up Heeled Bootie on wetseal.com. To purchase any of the shoes shown above, simply double click on the picture to be taken to the website! Happy Shopping!

It's not quite Spring weather where I live in Kansas, but it's never too early to put your mind on Spring! While my favorite season is Winter and I would rather wear boota year-round over sandals and wedges anyday, I've decided to take the time to highlight some of the spring shoe trends I'm looking forward to! I'm using the Spring issue of W Magazine and the March InStyle Magazine as my spring shoe guide. Both issues are on newsstands now! The Spring Shoe Trends post will be a two-part series! All of the shoes featured in this post are available at Forever 21 and Forever21.com! Clogs That old pair of clogs deep in your mom's closet? Dust them off and pull them out! (If you're lucky enough to wear your mom's shoe size like me!) This 70's shoe trend that made a brief appearance in the early 2000's is back (and possibly here to stay!) Clogs first started making an appearance on NYFW's Spring/Summer 2016 runway this past autumn! This shoe can be worn year-round with a thick sock in the winter and barefoot in the cooler Spring/Summer days. If you're not quite ready for a Spring shoe, you can opt for the clog boot! Create a fun boho look by pairing clogs with bell bottom jeans and a flowly top or poncho! But buyer beware, not all clogs are comfortable clogs and these shoes weren't made for walking and being on your feet for extended periods of time. Mules I first started seeing mules at the end of last summer and fell in love with this shoe. Another 70's trend, this shoe trend also made an appearance in the 90's and early 2000's. Mules are slip on shoes that provide both comfort and style. They are very versitile and can be dressed up or down, and work well with a dress, a short outfit or jeans. Stay tuned to The Mod Little Melanin for a DIY with mules! Platform Slingbacks When most hear the word slingback, they picture the dreaded shoe they wore to their 9th grade homecoming dance that they wouldn't be caught dead in today (or at least I do). Get that image out of your head! Slingbacks are back and better than ever! When combined with a platform heel, slingbacks become a sleek and sophisticated shoe that is perfect for pairing with a maxi dress in the Spring! Platforms also make a very comfortable shoe to wear for a night out! Cutout Sandals I posted the America the Beautiful Cutout Sandal from Shop Hope's on my blog about a month ago, and knew this would be a popular shoe trend! Thankfully, I was able to get the shoe for only $9.00. Cutout sandals are a great upgrade to your typical Spring/Summer sandal. This shoe adds sophistication to any outfit and is a more appropriate sandal for work and a dressier occassion. It's the perfect "coming of age" sandal to transition your closet from college girl to a young professional woman. Jellies Remember the jelly shoe you wore in the 90's with every single outfit? It's back and my favorite summer shoe! I have this look in a platform shoe I purchased from DSW for $10.00 last year. Similar jelly shoes are sold at Urban Outfitters for $60.00 (cringe), but you can get a pair of jellies from Forever 21 for a low as $9.90. This shoe goes perfect with a "grunge" look (which I'll highlight in a later blog post), or a sweet Spring/Summer look. Part two of my Spring Shoe Trends series will be up on Wednesday, March 30th! Stay tuned for more from The Mod Little Melanin!
- Chelsea Nicole, The Mod Little Melanin Hopefully every Sunday, you can be found in your best dressed attire, but Easter Sunday is the day to pull out all the stops! Hopefully every Sunday, you can be found in your best dressed attire, but Easter Sunday is the day to pull out all the stops! Here are three Easter dresses that have been stamped with a seal of approval by The Mod Little Melanin! The first dress comes from my favorite online boutique Shop Hope's! If you're a non-traditional Easter Sunday dresser like me, choose the Where I Come From Dress. While keeping with a traditional Springtime color, the black lace sleeves give the dress an edgy vibe, perfect for all the fashion setters out there! Pair a pair of chunky wedged heels or black booties as your shoe wear. Add a large, wool floppy hat and a fringed black purse as your accessories, as well as a long feathered necklace and large hoop earrings, and you've got a completed look! If you live in an area that is still chilly on Easter Sunday, add a long faux fur vest in black for warmth. My next dress comes from Charlotte Russe, and is a more traditional Easter Sunday dress. The Lace Mock Neck Shift Dress, avaliable in white, has a high neckline and gorgeous lace detail. Pair the dress with a pair of nude or blush pumps and a matching purse to keep the look simple and sophisticated. Choose a pair of pearl earrings and pearl bracelets to keep the look sweet! If you're feeling edgy, add a blush or cream faux fur coat for warmth or even a leather jacket and combat boots. My final dress also comes from Shop Hope's! I'm normally not a fan of floral print dresses, but this dress is to die for! The Botanical Garden Dress from Shop Hope's features a high neckline, a popular trend for dresses this season, and colorful floral prints throughout the dress. The variety of color in the print of the dress makes it versitile, meaning you can get multiple looks for your buck! I would add a pair of brown open-toed boots and matching brown clutch to accessorize. The high neckline on the dress means that you do not need to add a necklace; instead opt for a pair of small studded earrings and a few bracelets on your wrist. Or take a fashion risk by adding red patent leather pumps and a navy blue clutch to pull color from your dress into the accessories. To find any of the dresses in this Easter Sunday Lookbook, simply go to the website and search the name of the dress in the search engine! Show me your Easter Sunday style by including #themodlittlemelanin in your pictures!
